Tommy Moustache – EGO

Het debuutalbum van de eigenzinnige Rotterdamse band Tommy Moustache verscheen eind 2014. De band daagde recensenten uit om hun rauwe instrumentale jazz te definiëren. Een schizofrene trip met jazz, funk en rockingrediënten komt nog het meest in de buurt van een algemene consensus.
Tommy Moustache overrompelde bekende podia en festivals zoals het North Sea Jazz, Jazz International, het Concertgebouw. Ze wonnen de publieksprijs van de Dutch Jazz Competition 2016 en komen nu met een nieuw meesterstuk, genaamd EGO. In tegenstelling tot hun debuut, een ode aan hun held Tommy Moustache, stappen ze nu zelf in de schijnwerpers met deze megalomane ode aan henzelf. Volgens de heren is EGO niet slechts een album, maar een complete levensstijl.

De band schakelt moeiteloos over van zompige grooves en opzwepende funk naar rockende blues, zonder aan intensiteit in te leveren. (Popunie)

The debut album of the eccentric Rotterdam band Tommy Moustache appeared in the end of 2014 challenging reviewers with the definition of their raw instrumental jazz. A psychedelic trip with jazz, funk and elements of rock comes at the closest to a common consensus. Tommy Moustache run over well known stages and festivals such as North Sea Jazz, Jazz International, the Concertgebouw. Having won the Public Price of the Dutch Jazz Competition in 2016 they are coming up now with the new masterpiece named Ego. In comparison to the debut dedicated to their hero Tommy Moustache they step over now in the floodlights to the megalomaniac ode to themselves. According to the guys Ego is not only an album but a complete way of life.

The band has no trouble at all switching over from boggy grooves and exciting funk to the rocky blues without losing intensity (Popunie).
