Ikarai takes another view on boxing in MUHAMMAD. The epic fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaïre (Congo nowadays), the Rumble in the Jungle, is perfect for a music score: rythmic, graceful with striking blows!
Ikarai consisting of violin, altviolin, cello, contrabass, piano and drums combine the classical composition and improvisation to one world of sounds and stories.
Their concerts are like a movie for the mind. Ikarai only produce their own material and therefore they sound like nobody else. While there is much reference to classical music, the compositions expose improvisation, interaction and spontaneity: jazz.
Finding a balance between these elements characterizes Ikarai’s view on the future of modern music.
Line-up: Camiel Jansen (bass, compositions); Julian Schneemann (piano); Jeroen Batterink (drums); Tessel Hersbach (violin); Yanna Pelser (altviolin); Bence Huszar (cello)
