Projazz in het Koorenhuis - Concert Specials!

Alfredo Rodríguez and Pedrito Martinez are, separately, celebraties in Cuban music. Together they make intense, heart-to-heart compositions at which you’re not able to still your mind or body. Their album “Duologue”(2019) is full of the very rich Cuban compositions, which have their roots in the West-African tradition. On April 15th 2020 the Kleine Zaal will be filled with the dazzling music of this special duo.

Alfredo Rodríguez already loved music when he was a little kid and most of everything he wanted to become a drummer. But to get started at the Conservatoire he decided to play the piano. A good choice for he Cuban boy who developed himself, at a very young age, to an elegant and explosive virtuoso pianist and he soon belonged to the best of his generation. His breakthrough came when he had been invited for the prestigious jazz festival in Montreux where he met Quincy Jones. During the past years he released five very intense albums, of which the last one as a duo with Pedrito Martinez.

Pedrito Martinez was born and raised in Havana. Martinez started to perform professionally before his teens, together with local legends like percussionist Tata Güines, as well as the folkloric ensemble Los Muñequitos de Matanzas. Since his move to New York in 1998 he has established himself into the world of percussion and jazz. Martinez worked, amongst others, together with the Yerba Buena-collective, Claudia Acuña, Mark Weinstein, Brian Lynch and he has his own combo, The Pedrito Martinez Group. In 2013 he received a Grammy nomination for his combo.
